Its been a topic for debate amongst members of the SEF forum community for a while now, but we feel that time has come to pay tribute and honour 3 United greats - GIGGS, SCHOLES and NEVILLE.

SEF plan to make a large flag featuring an image of the three said players, similar in size to the "Welcome to Manchester" flag that was produced by SEF member Lisa G (Click link to see pic of flag).

SEF seek your design ideas, which must incorporate the images of the three players and suitable wording.

A thread has been opened on the SEF forum for all design ideas to be submitted, idealy with a mock up of your design. The three best designs will be submitted and put up for a members vote on the SEF forum.

Its easy to become a member, simply make a financial donation towards new banners and you will become a recognised SEF member (This flag will cost in the region of £600) click link here to find out how to donate.

Not only will the best design be made into a flag, the winning designer will also win a copy of a New Manchester United Book - "GLORY GLORY - Man Utd in the 90's - The Players Stories" which has kindly been donated by the author Andy Mitten.

Why did Eric Cantona start wearing his collar up? Which player got so drunk after a title-winning party he wet himself in a taxi? Why did Andrew Cole and Teddy Sheringham fall out? And which international star burnt his wedding tackle on a scalding hot tea urn?

Glory Glory is the story of one of the greatest eras in the history of England’s most famous club through the eyes of the players who made it happen. Not just the great wins, the cup finals and the trophy parades, but the half-time rows, the mad pranks, the boozy nights out and the training ground bust-ups.

Andy Mitten has tracked down ten of the stars from that team – including Eric Cantona, Andrew Cole, Lee Sharpe and Nicky Butt as well as controversial chairman Martin Edwards – to open the door to both the dressing room and the boardroom at Old Trafford as the club emerged as the dominant force in English football.

Glory Glory is an astonishingly candid and revealing insight into a club that was enjoying a magnificent decade of success. More than that, it is as lively and entertaining a sports book as you will ever read.

About the Author:
Andy Mitten – whose great uncle Charlie Mitten was a star in Matt Busby’s first great side – writes regularly for The Independent and FourFourTwo magazine. He has visited 90 countries and every continent as a football writer, covering derby games from Israel to the Faroes and Andorra to South Africa. He has also interviewed players such as Rooney, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Eto’o, Keane and Gerrard.

Born and red in Manchester, Andy currently divides his time between M16 and Barcelona, scene of United’s greatest triumph. He has written or co-written eight United books.

"Glory Glory - Man Utd in the 90's - The Players Stories" is available in all good book shops from October 12th and is a great read (Christmas gift) for any Manchester United fan, both young and old.

Time keeps ticking on for City PDF Print E-mail

The observant amongst you have noticed, the City Ticker banner, which pays tribute to Man City's Trophyless Years, was not present for Wednesday nights friendly game with Valencia.

This has lead to enquiries from several members of the press and supporters alike, who thought its removal was in response to City's "Welcome to Manchester" poster or even removed in fear of City actually winning a trophy!!!!

SEF can confirm that its removal was to simply update the banner and to rotate the counter between the 33 and 34 years. The City barren years continue to tick on and the banner will continue to remind them of this. If only Robinson Crusoe had such a visible reminder whilst stuck on his desert island, or Noah whilst floating about in his Ark, all lenghty spells that didnt last as long as City's MASSIVE hunt for a trophy!

The City ticker banner is designed to progress as each trophyless year passes, with a series of numbers installed inside the banners design, that get rotated a couple of times a season, showing the full year on the 28th February.

The banner will be back in place for Uniteds home game against Birmingham, but in the meantime, that doesnt stop you from laughing at City...ha ha ha!

New Season - New Banner PDF Print E-mail

As the new season approaches, SEF look to build on the success of the previous years.
We are always on the look out for new ideas and its YOUR chance to get involved in helping improve the atmopshere and colour within Old Trafford. The Sir Matt Busby mosaic looked superb in Rome and showed what level we can take the mosaics to.

We are looking to rotate the banners on the front of the STRETFORD END and as a result are seeking YOUR ideas for a new banner to be produced. All ideas are welcome from all fans, the best banners are usually those with one line of bold text, as this proves the most visible to the rest of the stadium. Ideas currently submitted celebrate the 18th league title or pay tribute to the home grown legends that are Neville, Giggs and Scholes. Ideas already submitted include -
"NEVILLE, GIGGS & SCHOLES - THE MANCUNIAN WAY" and "UTD DONT BUY SUPERSTARS, WE CREATE THEM".
SEF continue to seek banner ideas and designs, showing the colour scheme and font. Ideas can be submitted on the SEF flag forum or by e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Once we have a shorlist of banner ideas, these will be placed on the SEF flag forum for SEF donating members to vote on what design gets made. Hopefully we can have this new banner in place for the start of the season.

Towards the end of last season SEF auctioned off the "Solskjaer has Won it banner", which Ole himself signed, this banner sold for £1,021. The ebay selling fees came to £41.39 which left a profit of £979.61. The profit from the banner was split between SEF funds (with SEF absorbing the majority of the ebay fees) and Ole's chosen charity, as a result SEF presented a cheque for £500 to a local charity called BSC.

Despite the anguish of defeat in the European Cup Final in Rome last week, on reflection the 08/09 season was a great success for all at United and many a drink will be raised this summer to toast our 18th league title.

Last years '08 achievements paved the way for the inspiration behind the European Capital of Trophies banner that graced the front of the Stretford End since January.

We are now looking for YOUR ideas for a banner to be in place for the start of the 09/10 season, this could feature a great slogan from the history of Manchester United, pay tribute to the legends that are Scholes, Giggs and Neville or commemorate our 18th League title. YOUR ideas are what makes SEF work and banner designs can be submitted in the Flag design forum. Whilst we do prefer full mock up's of designs, the less creative can simply submit text ideas. If you haven't signed up on the forum, it only takes a minute and all contributors are welcome, the forum also acts as a friendly community for Utd related debate.

SEF rely on not just design ideas from YOU the fans, we also rely on your financial donations in order to fund new banners, TIFO flags and other fan initiatives aimed at improving the colour and atmosphere within Old Trafford.  There are two ways in which you can donate - Paypal donations can be made to the paypal account This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  or Cheques or Postal Orders made payable to 'Stretford End Flags' can be sent to: Stretford End Flags, c/o Champion Sports Travel, 2a Sir Matt Busby Way, Old Trafford, Manchester, M16 0QG

As the European path progresses SEf will also be seeking ideas for other initiatives such as mosaics. SEF members designed the idea for this years European Cup Final which paid tribute to Sir Matt Busby, an image of the mosaic in Rome can be seen below
